Eljuri celebrates the release of ‘Reflexión’, her highly anticipated fifth studio album
Music inspires us all. Eljuri writes and presents her songs to music lovers and they return their impressions to her. These are the ripples across the sonic oceans between us. Eljuri’s sound intersects somewhere between the cultures that she was raised in and the places that she has called home; Spain, Lebanon, Ecuador, and New York City. Through her distinctive style of music she hopes to open access to discovery, growth, and reflection.
“You are welcome to dive into my heavy Latin grooves from rock and reggae to funk and dance. Get lost in the intersecting sounds. I wrote this new album, ‘Reflexión’ as an antidote to our recent shared experience of inconceivable isolation. The melodies will lift your internal vibration towards positive energy,” says Eljuri.
A Billboard Songwriting Contest award winner (and called a “triple threat” by NPR Music), Cecilia Villar Eljuri is the songwriter, singer, guitarist, arranger and producer of Reflexión – her fifth solo studio album, where she’s turned out a set full of hypnotic and undeniable melodies that are familiar and foreign all at once. A Gibson endorsing artist, Eljuri’s towering guitar solos and strong emotive vocals are immediately recognizable as her signature sound. With heavy guitar-driven grooves deriving from a diverse palette of rock, Latin, middle-eastern, reggae, funk and dance that wrap around stories of resilience, shelter, our borders and the planet, the activist empowers the Latinx community, friends, allies and all champions for human rights.
The third single from Reflexión, La Voz, and deep cut El Camino both invite the listener to celebrate and participate by engaging in their community. Not one to merely write songs about activism, Eljuri leads by example and shows her indomitable spirit for being involved and taking action. One of the organizers of the 2017 Women’s March on NYC, she gives workshops and mentors others on how to welcome activism into their lives, while she’s on tour. Eljuri is also dedicated to passing it on, and is a regular mentor with Sound Thinking NYC – a free program especially designed to open doors for young women to explore careers in the music industry.
As Eljuri has called New York City home since her immigrant parents settled there from Ecuador with their baby Cecilia and her three older siblings, Reflexión’s focus track is Home, a rocker written entirely in English and as a tribute to NYC. It’s a dynamic love song resonating with the electric vibrations of the city. The iconic arrangement conjures the joy that we each feel for the place where we are most authentically ourselves. Eljuri says, “It thrills and excites me. I love every grand and gritty bit of it. I feel alive in my city. It’s home.”
Touted as one of the top Latina guitar players in the world, Eljuri is touring as a power trio in support of the album release throughout 2022 and 2023 in the US, Mexico and the Netherlands. www.eljurimusic.com/tour
